PRESS RELEASE: Young Artists Bring Their “A” Game to Straight Up!!! |
|
Dr. Elizabeth wanted to make Straight Up! by, for and about teens. In this spirit she sought to have youth artist produce the artwork for the front and back covers of this 2nd Edition. She went to South Mountain High School in Phoenix, Arizona, which is known for its strong visual arts department. There, with the help of Mr. Sebastio Pereira, Dr. Taylor was introduced to Dion James and Sonia Gutierrez, two of his most promising students. Upon meeting Sonia and Dion, and viewing their work, there was no doubt that they were right for the task. “You need to bring your “A” game to this book project”, Dr. Taylor said to the two shy, and willing artists. They were ready, and with the blessings of their parents, they went to work. The artwork on the front and back cover of this book is a result of their gifts. The two artists were given Certificates of achievement for their art and a monetary honorarium. Dion and Sonia are in the graduating Class of 2008. Please join in the celebration of their talent and continuing success!!!
 A Parent’s Lament
You, my dear child, I can teach all about AIDS, but I cannot protect you from HIV I can tell you things, but I cannot be responsible for them I can advise you, but I cannot decide for you I can talk about drink and about drugs, but I cannot say no in you place I can teach you goodness, but I cannot give you morality I can teach you respect, but I cannot make you honorable I can pass on values, but I cannot make you moral I can give you love, but I cannot give you inner beauty I have given you life, but I cannot do your living for you.
